Time to Support National Organization for Marriage

I generally disagree the National Organization for Marriage(NOM) we live on a country that based on individual freedom and diversity of beliefs. Yesterday the House proposed changes to the ethic rules that would treat same-sex partners as spouses. NOM believes that these new rules violate DOMA. I absolutely agree with NOM! Click here to follow NOM form to send Congress and email. Yes this a first.

Where I disagree with NOM is that the House needs to get rid of DOMA before requiring same-sex spouses to follow the same rule as as opposite-sex spouses. Once we have marriage equality than the same rules apply regardless of gender of spouses.

You want to edit the text in body and make sure to explain that you want them repeal DOMA first.

Here is my text sent with edits, “New House ethics rules obtained by Roll Call would recognize same-sex couples as “spouses” for purposes House disclosure requirements. This is a clear violation of the Defense of Marriage Act which defines spouse as “a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife” for all purposes of federal law.

Obviously, the Ethics Committee has no authority to contravene the plain language of DOMA, and the new rules were pulled from the Committee website after they were discovered by Roll Call.

I am writing as a concerned constituent, asking you to repeal DOMA first and then the ethic rules will make more sense.

Marriage equality and respect for the law are both important fundamentals of our society. I thank you for your attention to this issue.”
